For NYU: what do you use to fortify your donor milk? Are you using bovine foritifers or Prolacta?

For NYU what is your yearly budget for donor milk? For the NICU? and also for mother baby?

Hi Christine! It's Sam! We use both. We are not consistently using Prolacta yet because we do not have it built out in EPIC yet

Once it is built out in EPIC, we will be using it more often

Hi Sam!! I was impressed with the zero NEC rate, we hanvent gotten there yet but are not using prolacta!

Hi Christine! Its Erin Christopher from Crouse. We have our own donor human milk bank here, we use Prolacta, and have seen incredible growth in our neonates, minus NEC.

We use the Similac Human Milk Fortifier (bovine) for all our human milk.

Have you set up Epic to automatically charge for the donor milk or is it entered manually?

Have you tracked reimbursement of donor milk?

We are currently working on this at NYU.

The coding and billing department handles the claims and finds out from nursing how much each infant consumes. I’ll be speaking about this next.

It took a lot of work, but we are seeing reimbursement through Medicaid/Fidelis patients with donor human milk. Private insurance, not yet.

Can someone using Epic discribe how they are labeling their bar coded donor milk and the information you have added on the label?

has anyone used the Tymeless system?

How difficult/easy is it to get donors?

Hi Maria. Happy to answer your questions. We generate labels through a PRN order in EPIC. It then will generate a label for the breastmilk

CDC recommends 24 hours after thawing per 2019 guidelines, the 48 hour recommendations come from HMBANNA?

48 hrs is also from NY state Wadsworth guidelines for donor milk

Prior approval is extremely difficult in a NICU when the neonates cannot wait 1-2 days to start being fed unfortunately.

How much do you charge for the Kosher Milk? Will you be adding it to the hospital order form?

Erin - if you have a patient on a commercial plan, offer PDHM to baby and submit a PA so that you can get reimbursed. The effective date is when the PA was written.
